Recently, I had the opportunity to share a bill with my good friend, Brooke Miller. The show was at The Trailside Café in a small village on Prince Edward Island. Regardless of the rural location, the Trailside is a very trendy venue and one of the best places in the Maritimes to perform.
We had a house of roughly, thirty-five, attentive people. After my trio finished our set, we sat back to listen to Brooke and became awestruck. She played solo but, sounded like an orchestra with her unusual tunings on the guitar and her captivating songs mated to her beautiful voice.
I have known Brooke since she was a teenager and, even then, recognized her talent. She just keeps getting better. Her songs are exploratory, her guitar playing is unique and adventurous and her dedication is truly admirable.
My point in this entry is to demonstrate that success is measured by many ways. Artistic integrity, talent and dedication to craft are high on my list. Profile and monetary gain is usually something that is navigated by business and it is probably the most popular form as to what is accepted as success.
The guitar teacher who has dedicated their life to becoming a wonderful musician and passes their knowledge on to young students is a success. I feel, Brooke was successful the day she picked up a guitar.
